5 Tips for More $$ Consigning

5 Tips for More $$ Consigning

Do you want to try consigning, but are not sure it’s worth the effort?  Or have you tried it before, but didn’t get as much credit as you expected?  Here’s a few tips to make the most $$ for your consignments.

  1.  Consign often.  When I say often, I mean every month!  The very best way to make sure you always have consignment credit to use, or cash to pick up, is having a steady flow of inventory.  If you only consign once a season, you could have one bigger payout, and then relatively small amounts the rest of the time.  But if you are consistently consigning new inventory, you’ll get a consistent credit or cash for your items.
  2. Remember the 3 C’s.  The 3 C’s for consignment are:
    1. Clean- make sure all items are clean, including minimal pet hair.  This includes making sure they smell fresh and clean.
    2. Current- customers are looking for current styles.  The best styles are items originally purchased within the past 2 years.
    3. Cute- current styles and trends sell the best. Even infant and kids clothing go through style changes, make sure your items are current styles.
  3. Higher Quality = Better Credit.  Higher valued items, like designer, high end activewear brands, better brands of shoes and accessories have a better resale value.  Items that are originally low cost, have very little, if any resale value.  Usually low priced items do not have the quality that allows for multiple uses of those items. Buy better brands and quality originally, and you’ll have better credits when consigned.
  4. Consign within Season.  Although your favorite consignment store has their own season guidelines, make sure you aren’t at the end of any season or acceptance time.  By the end of the season, most shoppers have already bought what they need, and they are looking ahead to the next season.  Consign your items earlier in the season for the best results.
  5. Keep $$ as Credit.  For the most $$ back on your consignments, keep your payout as store credit.  You can earn more for the items  you bring in keeping your payout as store credit.  Then you simply use that credit toward future purchases.  You can let your payouts build up for a larger item, or get the thrill of shopping using your store credit making today’s shopping trip with nothing coming out of your bank account.  Free Shopping!

Keep these tips in mind for the most $$ from your consigned items.
